Coeliac Screen (Tissue Transglutaminase IgA)
This blood test looks for the the most frequently tested 'anti gluten' antibody - Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) IgA, along with Total IgA level (if TTG IgA is very low), giving a more accurate screening test than Tissue Transglutaminase alone. High levels of this antibody are consistent with a diagnosis of Coeliac disease, whereas a negative level of decreases your likelihood of having the condition.
It is important that a normal diet (NOT gluten free) is followed for 6 weeks prior to the test to ensure the antibodies are created in response to gluten's presence.
